Community Safety Audit
 Why have an audit?

The Crime and Disorder Act 1998 placed a duty on the Police, County Council and District Council to undertake an audit of crime and disorder within the District of North East Derbyshire, and to analyse the results of that audit. The last audit was published in 2001 and the results of that audit, following consultation, informed and influenced the three year strategy that was developed bythe Community Safety Partnership and came into force in April 2002. We are now reaching the end of that three year strategy and are moving towards the development of our strategy for the next three years. To help in developing that strategy we need to look at what has happened over the last three years and to see what the picture of crime and disorder looks like in North East Derbyshire. To do that we are gathering together information and statistics from for example, the police, local authorities, health, education, probation, fire service and local organisations. This will be mapped and analysed together with other statistical information such as employment/ unemployment, deprivation, housing, population etc.

Consultation

It is recognised that statistics alone do not always demonstrate the picture of what is actually happening on the ground. It is therefore crucial that this document is considered in conjunction with the views and perceptions of the community. The consultation process is vitally important and we would encourage you to comment by participating in the events that come to your area (these will be listed closer to the time). The objective of this consultation is to ensure that we take into account the concerns of the people of this District in relation to their safety and that of their property and their community. Only then can a multi agency strategy be developed which takes account of those concerns.

Audit to Action

The test of any strategy is to be able to track what has happened as a result of the existence of that strategy. Our last strategy, covering the period from April 2002 to March 2005 had six objectives which are listed below.

  • Burglary
  • Vehicle Crime
  • Violent Crime
  • Hate Crime
  • Drugs and Alcohol
  • Anti-social behaviour
