North East Derbyshire Clean-ups Clean-ups are a countywide campaign embracing a range of multi agency activities aimed at reducing antisocial behaviour, environmental issues and reassuring local residents as well as contributing to sustainable healthy communities. The clean ups are designed to have an immediate visible effect in relation to the removal of residents bulky goods, removal of litter, graffiti, and repair damage within a particular locality. Three residential areas have been selected from North East Derbyshire District based upon crime figures as well as agency and residential feedback. These areas will share £67,000 of funding awarded from the County Council for the clean up projects Photo: Danesmoor residents getting stuck in with councli cleansing workers. Danesmoor dayThe initial clean up was successfully undertaken on the 25th April 2007. The day was extremely successful in engaging with local residents and ensuring the removal of bulky goods and household waste from the streets. Many members of the local communities stated that there has never been such a sense of community as there had been that day Phase 2 of the project is currently underway. This will include flowerbeds and signs for the area, re-fencing front boundary of those houses that qualify and fit criteria, re-painting of resident’s doors. The fencing of selected properties is presently underway. The effect is aesthetically dramatic, and improves the attractiveness of the area Phase 3 will also look to address the needs of the younger people in the area and money has been ring fenced for the climbing wall located at St Barnabas Church Centre as well as money for games den equipment for the proposed youth club. We involved Chesterfield College, the Police, Fire and Rescue Service, DCC Welfare Rights Centre and Chesterfield Unemployed Centre to ensure that the residents got advice on coursed to increase their employability as well as advice on benefits. St Albans Church Centre opened its doors for the day where advices from all the above agencies were on offer, as well as taster session on the Games Zone equipment. 100 properties were smart-watered on the day.
