NED Community Safety Strategy We are very happy to be introducing to you the third three year strategy for our partnership. It has been drawn together as a result of a long and detailed programme of information collection and consultation. This is an extremely important stage in our development. Our first six years allowed us to gradually build and strengthen our partnership. Whilst it has not always been easy, and things have not developed as quickly as we would have liked, there have been some very effective projects and initiatives that would not have happened had this partnership not been in existence. We now want to build on those successes and make sure that the next three years will see a real difference on the ground for the people of North East Derbyshire. The partnership cannot make this happen in isolation. They also require the commitment and involvement of our communities. Our vision:- "To improve the quality of life and well being for those who live, work and visit North East Derbyshire by working in partnership to tackle crime and disorder and the fear of crime." Nine years ago the partnership began a long journey. The journey has not always been easy building a partnership and learning how to work effectively together has taken time, but we have gained and learned a lot on the way and believe that we now have a sound base from which to develop and succeed over the next three years. Inevitably, there will be other issues linked to community safety which do not appear specifically within our priorities, but may well appear on Action Plans developed to support and achieve objectives. For example, although road safety has not been highlighted, the partnership will endeavour to add value by supporting the work already being done by the County Road Safety Partnership. Over the past few months we will undertake a comprehensive audit of data from a wide variety of agencies relating to crime and disorder issues. Coupled with extensive consultation with communities and other agencies and organisations in the private, public and voluntary sector, this will provide us with a picture of the crime and disorder problems across the District and therefore help us to determine what the priorities should be over the next three years. We intend to use and learn from our past experiences, good and bad, and to drive forward a stretching programme of work to make sure that we achieve our objectives. There are not enough skills or resources in any one agency to deliver a strategy but working together as a partnership we can make it possible. It is important to ensure that the work that is happening within the individual agencies can support and complement the work that the partnership is trying to achieve. We have therefore looked closely at, and linked up with, the aims and objectives of our partners and other agencies who will help us to deliver a strategy, wherever possible. For example the targets within a strategy reflect very stretching targets developed by Derbyshire County Council for their Public Service Agreement. Launched earlier than this strategy is another important declaration for the people of Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire - the Community Strategy. This brings together the visions of an even wider partnership of agencies and organisations whose aim is to work together to improve the quality of life of our communities. That strategy will be delivered by CHART - the local strategic partnership, and the North East Derbyshire Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership will report to them and support their work.
